Salomon malamute vs burton driver x

I sent the boots back to Salomon and they sent them back to me as I sent them to them. No letter, redemption ,nothing. I think Burton has dropped the ball on durability. You might have a tough time finding a shop that has either in stock, much less both, in MA. Call around though, it really is worth trying them to make the decision yourself. They have a no-questiosn asked return policy.

I love the Malamutes. I rode and still do occasionally hardboots. I wanted something stiff, responsive, comfortable, and reliable. I picked up a new pair of 07 Drivers in the middle of last season.

I had previously rode out two sets of Burton SI boot and binding sets and would have done it again if they were still making them. They are stiff beyond belief. After about a week I started to get the feel for these boots.

They are absolutely bomber in the steeps and the crud. You feel like you could power through anything that stands in your way. The lace guide cracked, the sides of the boots split at the back of the toe box, and eventually the speed zone lace broke. That was in addition to plenty of creasing from ankle flex mentioned below.

All in all the Driver X is a great boot for someone who wants the most response Burton has for making stiffer boards turn in critical situations.

They are pretty stiff and stable which makes it easy to edge to edge and rail turns effortlessly , Because i like my boots firm to tight feeling when riding i have to speed lace them when i get to the top of mtn then when i walk off the mtn have to loosen them. I noticed every yr they improved the design lil by lil and now with lifetime replacement for the laces makes them even better.
