Ps1 games look better on ps2 or ps3

Other than that, a real PS2 with Retrotink 5x. SuperKlonoa'sArk3D alt account Banned. Jun 15, Mednafen and PCSX2 respectively.

Oct 25, 15, PS3 is "best" but comes with the caveat of the correct model being expensive and prone to issues. Next best would be a PS2 slim, not sure what the prices are these days but reliable, you lose the HD though. Next is emulation. Peltz Member. Oct 26, 10, ReddishGUI said:. If you want to play on hardware, beyond just buying those systems the OG PS3 model is really the only other option.

That said, those things can get relatively pricey these days, and have decently high failure rates on top of that if you are able to find one. If anything' s on the table, then emulation is simply the way to go. HylianMaster alt account Banned. Jun 30, 1, Always original. Saoshyant Member. Oct 25, 1, Portugal. Oct 28, I guess more expensive variants are better? Perhaps I should have gotten that dedicated converter for the PS2 instead?

It looks good enough. I also tried emulation but Ps2 emulation is still not accurate enough for many games. Mildly faster load times, some smoothing on the graphics and that's about it really The fuss about the BC comes in when people who only want to have one console under their telly and yet still want to play some old games I have one game Tombraider Legends that actually looks better on the PS2 as I have it hooked up via component and the game can output in progressive scan.

In my opinion PS2 games look better on the PS2. The Gooner Active Member. Click to expand The Gooner said:. You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads. Replies 10 Views 1K. Sep 12, Rodders Progressive Scan vs. Scaled and Smoothed Perhaps the most important comparison we can make is the one between a game that's been upscaled and smoothed versus the very same game running in progressive scan.

Switching on progressive scan in games that support it negates the upscaling and smoothing settings, but we think this is still the way these games look best. This image of Burnout Revenge shows why we're sticking with a game's built-in p rendering whenever possible. Everything on the right side of the screen is much sharper and more detailed.

Take a close look at the rear headlights, the license plate, the engine in the rear window and the timer at the top of the screen. Sure, it's a little more grainy, but it's also more well-defined. While the windows in the upscaled version look nicer, most everything else looks better in the p portion. Kratos is much sharper as are the soldiers that he's fighting, and the menu bar at the top of the screen is much crisper.

The upscaled side also loses a fair bit of detail in the floor. Comments There's going to be a lot of arguments about what setting is best, even on a game-by-game basis.

Some folks will like the cinematic look of games when upscaled and smoothed, while others will prefer p when available or perhaps even upscaled but not smoothed. Most of us here happen to prefer sticking with p when possible, but we're still keeping our fingers crossed that Sony will one day release an update that actually renders the games in HD rather than just scaling the image. Now head to the gallery for more images and see for yourself which mode is best.

Was this article informative? YES NO. There's a good chance you missed one of these. It was a huge deal back in the day. But as p tvs got better scalers, really the main benefit was running the games over hdmi. It was always looking for a analog signal. Betterer- ps2 games on ps4. They put some work into those, and actually render higher than they originally did.

Granted, you have to give sony money to rebuy them. No actual backwards compatibility. Anything kk and up is perfect. You literally stick your discs in your drive, start the legal emulator, and you have a native resolution of whatever image.

Sure, some games have glitches. I've only personally experienced it in FMVs in some games. Don't even have to do that, if you want to fiddle around with settings. Trust me when I say, its worth it. Dark Cloud 2 and Ape escape 2 look absolutely stunning in p. Or what I do, is wirelessly use my controller. Works perfect.

Emulation is a fine way to go but I'm the kind of person who gets annoyed at any little emulation mess up. Music skips in a short, weird level halfway through the game? Well, probably going to find a way to play that natively! I have the same problem with my PS1 right now.

My cheap fix for it is just a S-Video cable. It's not mind blowing, especially with the PS1 since it kinda needs scanlines, but there was still a noticeable difference from component cables and I imagine the PS2 would probably look even better,so I would start there at least if your TV even supports S-Video. If you're still not satisfied or don't feel like breaking your back carrying a CRT, then maybe it's time to invest in an upscaler, buying the games off the PSN store for PS4, or start using emulators on the computer.

Then buy a used CRT TV cause that is the closest thing you'll get to make it not look like trash on your flat screen. The legality of acquiring it online, even if you own your own PS2, is murky at best.

I own one and it's super convenient to use, but it'll just convert the analogue signal to digital to save on tripping over a set of component cables. Its different on every tv though, but that way it should display and widescreen if available. Its never going to look hd or anything but that could cause the picture to look worse you want it to look how it was meant to look. Yeah, if you TV does Component, that you doing about the best you can for the least price.

But, if you have component that use that, its fine. BTW: If some other are you are reading this and wonder what "dongle" to get - get the one that doesn't need external power - that way you are not making it even more complex than it needs to be. There are a dozen cheap dongles from China, don't get confused. I found the ps2 with component cables looked fine on my newer hdtv, my mitsubishi hdtv from though definitely looks worse. The newer one has options for component inputs to make them look significantly better.

The mitsubish has virtually no processing, being an old p tv.
